What Dessert to Make with Fresh Peaches

Peaches are a delightful fruit that brings a burst of sweetness and juicy flavor to any dish. Their soft texture and vibrant color make them perfect for a variety of desserts. Whether you’re looking for something simple or more elaborate, fresh peaches can transform your dessert table into a feast for the senses. In this article, we’ll explore several delicious desserts you can make with fresh peaches.

Peach Cobbler

A peach cobbler is a classic Southern dessert that combines the sweetness of peaches with a buttery, crumbly topping. It’s easy to make and always a hit at family gatherings.

Ingredients:

  • 6 fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions:

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large bowl, combine the sliced peaches, granulated sugar, lemon juice, and ground cinnamon. Mix well and let it sit for about 10 minutes so the peaches release their juices.

Pour the peach mixture into a lightly greased 9×13-inch baking dish.

In another bowl, combine the flour, rolled oats, brown sugar, baking powder, and salt. Mix well.
Pour the melted butter over the dry ingredients and stir until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Sprinkle the crumb mixture evenly over the peaches in the baking dish.

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the peaches are bubbly.

Let it cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm or at room temperature.

Peach Ice Cream

Homemade peach ice cream is a refreshing treat that captures the essence of summer. It’s creamy, sweet, and infused with the natural flavor of fresh peaches.

Ingredients:

  • 4 fresh peaches, peeled and sliced
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions:

In a blender, puree the sliced peaches until smooth. You may need to add a little milk to help with blending.

In a medium saucepan, combine the pureed peaches, granulated sugar, and 1 cup of whole milk. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is warm. Do not let it boil.

In a large bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, vanilla extract, egg yolks, and a pinch of salt until smooth.

Slowly pour the warm peach mixture into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from scrambling.

Pour the mixture back into the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon (about 8-10 minutes). Do not let it boil.

Remove from heat and let it cool slightly. Pour the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any lumps or peach pulp, if desired.

Refrigerate the mixture for at least 2 hours, or until thoroughly chilled.

Pour the chilled mixture into an ice cream maker and churn according to the manufacturer’s instructions.

Transfer the churned ice cream to an airtight container and freeze for at least 2 hours before serving.

Peach Galette

A galette is a free-form tart that’s easy to make and looks impressive. This peach galette is a delicious combination of buttery crust and juicy peaches, with a hint of cinnamon and vanilla.

Ingredients:

  • For the crust:
  • 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup ice water

For the filling:

  • 4 fresh peaches, peeled, pitted, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon turbinado sugar (for sprinkling)

Instructions:

In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the chilled butter cubes and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Drizzle the ice water over the mixture, 1 tablespoon at a time, mixing gently with a fork until the dough starts to come together. Do not overmix.

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and shape it into a disk. Wrap it in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough into a 12-inch diameter circle. Transfer it to the prepared baking sheet.

In a large bowl, combine the sliced peaches, granulated sugar, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, vanilla extract, and flour. Mix gently to coat the peaches.

Arrange the peach slices in the center of the dough, leaving a 2-inch border around the edges. Fold the edges of the dough over the peaches, pleating as you go to create a rustic edge.

Sprinkle the turbinado sugar over the peaches and dough.

Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the peaches are bubbly and juicy.

Let it cool slightly before slicing and serving.Enjoy warm or at room temperature.
