Bali, a popular tourist destination, has recently witnessed a new kind of scam aimed at targeting unsuspecting travelers. A concerned Australian woman, visiting Bali, recounted her encounter on social media. While dining with her husband at a Kuta Burger King, she noticed three suspicious-looking individuals approaching a father and son at a nearby table. Curious about their intentions, the woman eavesdropped on their conversation, revealing a dubious pattern. The trio initiated chats about tourists’ countries of origin and adeptly steered discussions towards international currency and exchange rates. Eventually, they requested to view the currency from the tourists’ home country.
However, the woman sensed the inauthentic nature of their interaction and promptly took a photograph of the individuals. Subsequently, the trio hurriedly left the restaurant. Others familiar with the incident corroborated her concerns, citing similar experiences of a scam wherein criminals feign interest in foreign currency to ascertain how much money tourists possess. Once convinced that the target holds a substantial sum, the thieves make off with the money.
