A recent fundraising event, the Mrs. Roper Romp, successfully raised over $1400 to support the Sylvan Lake Food Bank and the Sylvan Lake Municipal Library Food Pantry. The lively gathering, themed around the beloved television character Mrs. Roper from Three’s Company, took place on April 27th in Sylvan Lake.
Annette Brown, the event’s organizer, shared her motivation behind the initiative. “I just feel that with the economy the way it is, these services are being utilized more and more, and they are in need of a replenishment of their funds and supplies.”
In addition to the monetary contributions, the fundraiser collected over 64 pounds of food. A total of 78 enthusiastic participants signed up for the event, dressing up in themed attire to celebrate the occasion.
Reflecting on the event’s success, Brown expressed her desire to make it an annual affair. “I think it’s going to have to turn into an annual event. It was so much fun, with a lot of positive feedback from attendees who had a blast. We are very thankful for all those involved.”
Brown also highlighted the mutual benefit for local businesses, as participating restaurants and bars experienced increased patronage throughout the event, fostering community connections.
For those interested in supporting the Food Bank or the Little Pantry at the Library, donations of the following items are welcomed: meat, cheese, eggs, milk, canned proteins (such as tuna or ham), hygiene items, baby food and diapers, cleaning supplies, and even pet food.
This successful fundraiser not only raised crucial funds and resources for local organizations but also fostered a sense of community engagement and support among Sylvan Lake residents.
