As climate change continues to present increasing threats and unpredictable natural disasters become more frequent, survival-minded shoppers are turning to Costco’s “Readywise Emergency Food Bucket” as a potential lifeline.
The popular warehouse retailer is offering the “Readywise Emergency Food Bucket” for approximately $80 to its U.S. customers. The product has become a hit, particularly among those who prioritize emergency preparedness.
“In a world where unpredictability has become a constant, our assortment takes on a vital role in emergency preparedness,” reads the product description on Costco’s website. “Imagine the sudden onset of severe weather, the challenges of unexpected job transitions, or the unsettling thought of food shortages. These are the moments when having a reliable source of sustenance becomes a game-changer.”
The bucket includes 150 food pouches featuring a variety of flavors such as chicken Alfredo, creamy pasta and vegetables, teriyaki rice, cheesy macaroni, as well as puddings, cereals, and an “orange drink mix.” Notably, the meals boast a 25-year shelf life.
The Readywise product touts “80 servings of hearty entrees & sides, 30 servings for nourishing breakfasts, and an additional 40 drink servings. Easy preparation, just add water.”
Recent natural disasters, like the significant flooding that trapped residents in the Midwest in their homes or forced evacuations, have underscored the importance of being prepared. Additionally, the aftermath of Hurricane Beryl left residents in Houston, Texas, without power for days, causing refrigerated and frozen foods to spoil.
The emergency food bucket has earned nicknames such as the “doomsday kit” or “apocalypse dinner kit” from social media users. Instagram user and cookbook author Jeffrey Eisner highlighted the product in a video, expressing his astonishment.
