Breakfast is often called the most important meal of the day. Yet, many people choose quick and easy options as they rush to start their mornings. From fruit and granola to bacon, egg, and cheese sandwiches, breakfast is often eaten in a hurry. Cereal, in particular, is a popular choice because it is fast and convenient. Whether it’s a childhood favorite like Lucky Charms or a more classic option like Grape Nuts, cereal is a go-to meal for many.
However, cereal lovers should take note of a recent safety alert. Post Consumer Brands, the maker of Honey Bunches of Oats, has voluntarily recalled 5,300 cases of its cereal. The recall was issued due to the possible presence of metal fragments in the product. The company reported the issue to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and stated that the move was preemptive and done out of caution.
The affected product is the 48-ounce box of Post Honey Bunches of Oats with Almonds, Sweetened Cereal with Oats and Honey. The boxes can be identified by UPC code 8 84912-01428 3 and “Best If Used By” dates APR0926 RCA and APR1026 RCA. The cereal was shipped to Sam’s Club warehouses in California and Colorado. Post believes the boxes did not reach store shelves.
So far, no injuries or illnesses have been linked to the recalled product. Still, the company urges consumers to check their cereal boxes at home. Anyone who finds an affected box should avoid eating it.
