Tay Ying’s Top Dining Spots in Hanoi

In the latest edition of CNA Lifestyle’s “Celebrity Food Travels,” actress Tay Ying shares her favorite culinary destinations around the world, along with her top recommendations for must-visit dining spots.

Tay Ying, a 28-year-old Singaporean actress, is not only a food enthusiast but also an adventurous eater. “I enjoy exploring a wide range of flavor profiles and cuisines, and I’m not particularly picky,” she said, highlighting her willingness to try new things during her travels.

Before visiting any country, Tay Ying makes it a point to research the best places to eat. “The first thing I do is check Google Maps and social media for recommendations,” she explained. “I save these spots and organize them into categories to ensure I don’t miss out on anything special.”

However, she doesn’t settle for just any recommendation. “I’ll read a substantial number of reviews before deciding which places to visit,” Tay Ying shared. “For every trip, this is a must-do — and I do it in Singapore as well. You don’t want to waste your calories!”

When it comes to choosing her favorite destination for food, Tay Ying has a clear preference. “Vietnam is hands down my favorite country to travel for food,” she said, revealing her recent experience in Hanoi. “The food scene there is full of explosive flavors, and the value for money is unbeatable.”

For anyone planning a trip to Hanoi, Tay Ying offers a few practical tips. “Wear something comfortable to run around in, because the traffic can be overwhelming. Sometimes, you really have to take courage and jaywalk – it’s just the norm there,” she said with a laugh. “Hanoi is very walkable, but if you need a taxi, make sure to use an app to book it. Public transportation is almost non-existent.”

Her advice also extends to the adventurous side of dining. “One night, we decided to try a street food stall where we sat on tiny stools by the roadside. We weren’t sure about the hygiene, but it turned out to be one of the best chee cheong funs we’ve ever had,” Tay Ying recalled. “The stall didn’t even have a name or a fixed address, so I couldn’t include it in my top five, but it was truly a memorable experience.”

For Tay Ying, embracing the unknown while traveling can lead to some of the most rewarding culinary discoveries.
