Superlatus Inc., a versatile food technology enterprise, which recently joined forces with health services information technology company Trxade Health, Inc., is set to unveil a range of pulse-based protein snacks featuring a distinctive twist. Employing cutting-edge food extrusion technology from Sapientia Technology, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Superlatus, the company is poised to introduce this novel culinary creation.
Eugenio Bortone, PhD, the Chief Technology Officer at Superlatus, conceived the concept of the protein-infused twisted snacks. Dr. Bortone is also celebrated for his contribution to the development of Frito-Lay’s Twisted Cheetos.
Anticipated to be a game-changer, Superlatus’ pulse-based protein twists offer a suite of healthful advantages. These innovative snacks are projected to contain 25% fewer calories (112 calories), more than a threefold increase in protein content (8 grams), double the fiber (3 grams), 40% less fat (6 grams), a 67% reduction in saturated fat (0.5 grams), and a 20% decrease in sodium (200 mg) compared to conventional snacks.
Presently, the twisted protein snacks have already established their presence in around 300 federated cooperatives across Canada, being offered under various private labels, serving as a tangible proof of concept.
Tim Alford, the Interim CEO of Superlatus, underscored the significance of this endeavor by noting, “Over 100,000 schools and institutions serve school lunches to 29.6 million students daily. We know soft drinks and traditional chips are the most frequent items sold in vending machines at school. These innovative protein twists are expected to be launched under the Brave Robot brand, a subsidiary of Superlatus known for its animal-free whey protein-based ice cream created in collaboration with Perfect Day, Inc. This collaboration ensures the creation of lactose-free and vegan-friendly ice cream. Further expanding their impact, Superlatus’ subsidiary, The Urgent Co., is committed to producing animal-free foods that have a reduced environmental footprint through the application of innovation and science.
Superlatus has set its sights on launching Brave Robot products throughout the United States in early 2024. This pioneering move not only embodies Superlatus’ commitment to both health-conscious snacking and environmental sustainability but also signifies a promising evolution in the world of protein-infused treats.
