Pizzacroft, located on Meadowcroft in Stratton St Margaret, Swindon, has been bestowed with a fresh zero food hygiene rating, signaling ongoing concerns about its food safety standards. This development comes after the establishment initially received the lowest possible rating in November 2022.
Since assuming management responsibilities in April 2023, the new proprietor, identified as Sam, has asserted significant efforts to rectify the issues inherited from the previous ownership. Despite these endeavors, an unannounced inspection conducted on March 25 highlighted persisting deficiencies, resulting in another zero rating.
Sam expressed frustration over the lack of response to his repeated requests for a re-inspection over the past year, aimed at gaining clarity on the specific areas necessitating improvement. Notably, the inspection underscored urgent improvement requirements for food safety management, as well as enhancements in hygienic food handling and the cleanliness and upkeep of the premises.
During the inspection, it was noted that crucial aspects such as allergen notices were not prominently displayed, and only one staff member possessed Level 2 food hygiene training. Additionally, the temporary unavailability of hot water due to its supply from another section of the building was flagged as an issue.
Promptly following the inspection, corrective measures were undertaken. These included the installation of a new boiler to ensure a consistent, independent hot water supply, initiation of food hygiene training courses for three additional staff members, conspicuous display of allergen notices, and engagement of Peninsula, a specialized company, to assist in managing on-site health and safety standards.
Sam expressed confidence in the establishment’s current state, asserting that if re-inspected, he anticipates a substantial improvement in the rating. He emphasized the completion of tasks outlined by inspectors to enhance scoring and highlighted the positive feedback received regarding the implemented changes.
The proprietor voiced disappointment over the perceived unfairness of the zero rating, emphasizing the dedication and long hours invested in sustaining the business. Despite the setback, Sam affirmed the favorable reception from patrons, particularly commending the addition of kebabs to the menu, and reiterated his commitment to upholding quality and safety standards.
In anticipation of a forthcoming inspection, Sam remains optimistic about the prospects of a higher rating, underscoring his ongoing commitment to ensuring Pizzacroft meets and exceeds food safety expectations while maintaining customer satisfaction.
