Chinese vegetable fried rice is a simple, flavorful dish that can be made with a variety of fresh vegetables. It’s quick to prepare, making it a popular choice for a weeknight meal. Fried rice is also a great way to use up leftover rice and incorporate your favorite vegetables into a delicious, satisfying dish. This recipe will guide you through each step, from choosing the right ingredients to creating the perfect fried rice with a light, savory flavor.

  • 1 teaspoon of sugar (optional, to balance the flavors)
  • 1 tablespoon of cooking oil (vegetable or canola oil)
  • 2 large eggs (beaten, optional)

Optional Garnishes:

  • Extra green onions
  • Toasted sesame seeds

Preparing the Ingredients

Before starting to cook, it’s important to prepare all of your ingredients. The key to a successful fried rice is having everything ready to go before you start cooking, as stir-frying happens quickly.

Add the Rice:

  • Add the cooked rice to the pan. Use a spatula to break up any clumps of rice.
  • Stir well to coat the rice evenly with the oil and vegetables. Continue to stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes, ensuring that the rice is heated through and starting to get a bit crispy.

Season the Rice:

  • Drizzle the soy sauce and sesame oil over the rice. Stir to evenly coat the rice in the sauces.
  • Add the oyster sauce if you’re using it. This will give the dish a deep, umami flavor.
  • Sprinkle in the white pepper and sugar (if desired). Stir well to incorporate all the seasonings into the rice.

Add the Eggs Back In:
