Since Ben & Jerry’s introduced Cherry Garcia in 1987—a flavor honoring Grateful Dead leader Jerry Garcia—jam bands and ice cream have become a perfect pairing. Ben & Jerry’s followed up a decade later with another jam band-inspired treat, Phish Food.
Now, the band Goose is joining the tradition with a new limited-edition flavor from Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams, known for collaborations with artists like Tyler, the Creator and Dolly Parton. The new flavor, called Goose Tracks, blends red raspberries, blackberries, and bittersweet chocolate flakes.
The ice cream’s pint features artwork by Brian Blomerth, who also designed the cover for Goose’s latest album, Everything Must Go.
“On a Venn diagram comparing Jeni’s and Goose, where the circles overlap would be called Things That Bring People Together and Make People Feel Good,” said Ryan Morgan, Jeni’s head of brand. “Music and ice cream are two of life’s greatest connectors. A live Goose show is about the joy of the moment and sparking emotional connection through shared presence. A Jeni’s experience is about the same thing.”
Goose drummer Cotter Ellis said, “This was a really fun collab. We are big fans of Jeni’s ice cream, what they stand for, and how they source their ingredients. We hope our fans enjoy Goose Tracks!”
The connection between pop culture and ice cream is not new. Ben & Jerry’s notes that Bing Crosby had his own ice cream flavor as early as 1953.
The trend continues with the Jonas Brothers launching a collaboration with Friendly’s Ice Cream to celebrate their 20 years of music. Their 20th Anniversary Flavor combines coffee cookie crumble, chocolate marshmallow, and vanilla in one 48-ounce tub. Kevin, Joe, and Nick each selected a flavor to create the unique blend.
