This weekend offers the perfect opportunity to bid farewell to one of the city’s beloved speakeasies, explore some of Hong Kong’s most exciting new bars, and enjoy refreshing, booze-free options as the year winds down. As 2024 comes to a close, why not reflect on a year of exceptional mixology and get ready for a healthy start to the new year?

Friday, December 27: A Final Toast at Room 309

What’s Happening: This weekend marks the final chance to visit the iconic Room 309 at The Pottinger. The speakeasy, known for its sophisticated, visually stunning clarified cocktails, is closing its doors after an incredible run. Announced earlier this month, the bar will cease operations on New Year’s Eve, making this weekend your last opportunity to experience its one-of-a-kind offerings before it bids farewell.

  • Kinsman: Inspired by mid-20th-century Hong Kong, this bar offers “A Tale of Hongkongers,” a menu that celebrates local ingredients and flavors.
  • Socio: Known for its commitment to sustainability, Socio uses locally-sourced ingredients to create unique cocktails with a focus on regionally-inspired flavors.
  • Gokan: A star-studded venue from Shingo Gokan, this bar delivers a Ginza-style cocktail experience with a modern twist.
  • C108: A casual café by day, this SoHo hotspot transforms into an inventive cocktail bar by night, offering creative drinks in a relaxed setting.
  • Takumi Mixology Salon: Located in Causeway Bay, this Japanese cocktail bar, led by Mizunara alumnus Rayven Leung, offers a masterclass in Japanese mixology.
  • Qura: For those seeking breathtaking views and expertly crafted drinks, Qura at the Regent Hong Kong offers a memorable experience by the harbor.

Sunday, December 29: The Opposites’ Spirit-Free Menu

What’s Happening: For those looking to dial down on alcohol and ease into the new year on a healthier note, The Opposites, a dual-bartender concept by Antonio Lai and Samuel Kwok, has launched a new spirit-free cocktail menu. Featuring fresh fruits and unique flavor profiles, these light, low-ABV drinks are perfect for anyone taking a break from the holiday party circuit or making an early start on their New Year’s resolutions.

Highlights include the Beetroot Watermelon Salad, a refreshing mix of earthy beetroot, watermelon, and orange shrub, and the Canto-Braise, which combines de-alcoholized wine with cacao, raspberry, smoked plum, and spices for a complex yet smooth flavor.

  • When: 5 p.m. – 1 a.m.
  • Where: LG/F, Hilltop Plaza, 49 Hollywood Road, Central

Whether you’re looking to bid adieu to a beloved speakeasy, revisit the city’s most innovative new spots, or opt for a spirit-free celebration, this weekend in Hong Kong offers a drink for every occasion.
