Wells Enterprises Recalls Nearly 18,000 Ice Cream Containers Over Plastic Contamination Risk

LE MARS, Iowa — Wells Enterprises, the manufacturer behind popular ice cream brands Blue Bunny and Halo Top, has voluntarily recalled nearly 18,000 containers of ice cream and frozen yogurt due to possible plastic contamination.

According to a report from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) released this week, the recall was initiated on April 25 after the company discovered that certain batches may contain fragments of plastic.

The recall affects 22 flavors packaged in 3-gallon tubs and distributed to over 100 locations across the United States, including centers in Iowa, Michigan, Illinois, and Texas. The affected products have “use by” dates from March 2026 to October 2026.

The FDA has classified the recall as Class II, meaning the products may cause temporary or medically reversible health effects that are not likely to be serious or life-threatening.

Wells Enterprises has not yet released a public comment regarding the recall.

Consumers and distributors are advised to consult the FDA’s official recall report for a full list of affected products and their identifying information.
