More than 15,000 pounds of beef jerky and beef snack sticks have been recalled across the United States due to mislabeling and an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced.
The recall affects approximately 15,388 pounds of products from several brands, including Uncommon Ground, Spear, and Big D’s. These items were sold at retail stores nationwide between May 30, 2023, and May 30, 2025. All affected packages carry the establishment number “EST. 20528.”
According to FSIS, the products may contain fish, specifically anchovies, which were not listed on the ingredient label. Fish is a major allergen and must be clearly declared on food packaging. The oversight puts consumers with fish allergies at risk of serious reactions if they unknowingly eat the product.
People with fish allergies can suffer from anaphylaxis, a severe reaction that may include hives, throat swelling, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness, and even cardiac arrest. Anyone experiencing these symptoms after eating beef jerky should seek emergency medical help immediately by calling 911.
Consumers are urged to check their beef jerky and snack stick products. If the packaging matches any of the recalled items, it should be thrown away or returned to the store for a refund.
