Costco has launched a new item at select food courts, but for many loyal customers, it’s no substitute for a long-lost favorite.
The retailer is now offering a $6.99 Combo Calzone, packed with pepperoni, sausage, cheese, onions, peppers, olives, and mushrooms. The item closely resembles Costco’s former combo pizza, a fan favorite that has yet to return to the menu.
The new calzone was first spotted by Instagram account @costcobuys, which shared a photo and review. “It’s definitely giving combo pizza vibes,” the post said. “Best of all, it’s DELICIOUS!”
However, not all customers are thrilled. Some say the new item is too expensive. “For that price, I can get a chicken bake, hot dog combo, and a slice of pizza,” one shopper commented. Another added, “At that price, you’re just $3 shy of a whole pizza.”
For many fans, Costco’s food court menu is sacred. The $1.50 hot dog combo is untouchable. Any changes—like removing the combo pizza—are met with loud and lasting complaints.
Some wonder if Costco is listening. Though the company continues to experiment with new menu items, longtime customers still hope for the return of old favorites.
The $1.50 hot dog combo is a well-known symbol of Costco’s value promise. When former CEO Craig Jelinek once considered raising the price due to financial concerns, co-founder Jim Sinegal famously said, “If you raise the effing hot dog, I will kill you. Figure it out.”
Fans now hope that the same dedication will bring back the beloved combo pizza. Until then, new items like the calzone may fall short of satisfying nostalgic cravings.
