McDonald’s is quietly testing a new variation of its popular breakfast sandwich, and fans are buzzing with excitement—and confusion.
According to food influencer Mouth Attack, the fast-food chain has launched a limited test of a Blueberry McGriddle in select locations in Houston, Texas. The sandwich features the traditional McGriddle components—sausage, egg, and cheese—served between griddle cakes infused with blueberry flavor.
A McDonald’s spokesperson confirmed to Parade that there are no widespread tests currently in progress and clarified that the Blueberry McGriddle hasn’t been available since its initial trial in 2019. That earlier test, held in the Washington, D.C. area, used real blueberries baked into the maple-flavored griddle cakes rather than just flavoring.
The news has taken many McDonald’s fans by surprise. “I never knew they had a blueberry one!!!” one user wrote in response to the announcement. Others shared similar reactions, asking how they missed the item during its first run. “As a McGriddle connoisseur, why is this the first time I’m finding out this existed?” one commenter demanded.
While some were simply surprised, many expressed eagerness to try the blueberry version. “Ain’t no need to do a test run, run ‘em,” one fan insisted. Another added, “Give me 15 right now.”
The unexpected return also sparked calls for new variations. “Make a chocolate chip one,” one user suggested, while another pleaded, “I need a strawberry McGriddle next!!”
Not everyone, however, welcomed the news. Longtime fans of the discontinued Snack Wraps voiced their frustration, using the opportunity to once again call for their return. “Here we go again! Releasing everything but the Snack Wraps…” one commenter wrote. Another added, “They playin’ in our faces at this point.”
Whether the Blueberry McGriddle expands beyond Houston remains to be seen. But judging by the reaction online, McDonald’s breakfast fans are ready—and hungry—for something new.
