Korean authorities have recalled two bakery products after a Salmonella outbreak linked to the items caused multiple illnesses. The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, along with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency and local officials, ordered the recall following an investigation into food poisoning reports. The affected products are “High Calcium Strawberry Cream Roll Cake” and “High Calcium Wheat Chocolate Banana Bread,” both manufactured by Mother Goose and distributed by Foodmus.
Salmonella Enteritidis was detected in the products and in patients who showed symptoms of food poisoning in North Chungcheong Province. The recalled roll cake has a sell-by date of October 12, 2025, and the banana bread’s affected date is September 21, 2025. Consumers who purchased these items have been advised to stop eating them immediately and return them to the place of purchase.
In 2023, Korea reported nearly 600 waterborne and foodborne outbreaks, sickening almost 12,700 people. Most incidents occurred in restaurants and educational or childcare facilities. Norovirus was the leading cause, followed by unknown agents and then Salmonella.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation to prevent further spread and ensure food safety.
